Re: Hundreds of inquiries and complaints made to New Westminster’s compliance hotline, Record News
I was saddened to read New West city has enacted a compliance complaint hotline – a.ka. a snitch line - where neighbours can report on their fellow neighbours and others who they “think” are not following the rules.
Reading the article, it soon became clear very few of the 400-plus complaints had much, if any, merit to them.
That alone caused wasted time for compliance officers that could have been busy elsewhere. I honestly believe the majority of New West residents are following the rules, as I believe stores that have stayed open so we’re able to buy food are also following the rules.
Honestly, in a time when our health ministers and government officials are repeatedly encouraging Canadians to support each another in any way they can, to see the opposite occurring in my own city with the compliance hotline, is more than disheartening.
