Letter: New Westminster's roads are a disgrace

This letter writer says it's time for the city to start taking care of the roads.

New Westminster needs roads for its citizens to use, and the city is letting residents down — that's the message from this letter writer.

An open letter to the city of New Westminster:

I am sorry that city hall has let us down again. I have been part of this community for 35 years, and the only one complaint I have has is that the roads have never or rarely ever been fixed! With the amount of property taxes we pay and all other taxes in our every day lives, you would think that we can put the money to good use and take care of our roads first.

There is so much going wrong in this city, and the roads is the biggest one. No one rides bikes in New West, not even the kids that go to NWSS. We have a biking event once a year that already causes major traffic jams, and taking away the most important road in our city is only gonna cause so much more grief especially when parents are picking up their kids from school.

We have put up barriers that stop us from forward motion and only set us back further. The first time I saw this happening I wanted to grab a jackhammer and start going at it.

We need to sign a petition and get rid of them. I will happily take the hit in the money spent and reset up or set amount aside for roads for next year and put them to good use. City hall, stop focusing on the roads the semis use every day and start taking care of Queen's Park and Moody Park, the areas that made this city what it was. We are heritage and we are royal!

Start taking care of us. Thirty years overdue for a new high school and 80 years overdue for new roads. More people are coming to Canada and New Westminster every year, which means more roads. But I guess that means take away more roads. right? Wronnnnng!!!!!!!

It’s sad to see we have had people in city hall that have been part of this community for 30+ years and this is what they feel is right? Give your head a shake and start talking to the real community. I love New West and will never move, but I do hope things change for the better.
