Letter: New West market needs separate line for people with disabilities

New West Farmers Market
The entrance to the New West Farmers Market is strictly controlled as the market has reconfigured in the face of COVID-19.

For the first time, I went to the farmers’ market in Tipperary Park.

There is only one entrance off Queens Avenue. I understand that there should be traffic control. However, there are people with disability concerns and seniors who will be coming from Royal Avenue. I am one of them with a cane. Walking on the uneven sidewalk is risky and not practical for walkers and scooters as well. I had to be careful walking on the uneven sidewalk to not to trip or fall. I do not want to break any of my 78-year-old bones.

When I reached the entrance, there was a long lineup. There was no line set up for people with disability concerns and seniors. A staff lady was kind enough to offer me a chair. With the long line, I decided to go home and walked back slowly, but surely to Royal Avenue.

Please do not forget us. We are part of New Westminster. May I suggest that you revisit the logistics of the farmers’ market?
