May Day is a celebration of both British/commonwealth heritage - which applies to many residents of New Westminster, and which underlies the founding of the City of New Westminster - and a celebration of spring.

The May Day celebration is one of many cultural and seasonal events celebrated in our city and in our schools.

I feel fortunate to live in a city that celebrates many diverse cultures and identities. In my opinion, May Day should be one of those celebrations. I don’t find it outdated or non-inclusive.

I find it historical, interesting, fun and charming. I attend many events in the City that don’t relate to my own personal heritage or culture - I find them enriching.
