The New Westminster recycling depot will be replaced by a shared facility in Coquitlam.

I made a trip to the Coquitlam garbage disposal depot on United Blvd - not a trip I often make, fortunately.

My travel time there was over 20 minutes from the Brow of the Hill area, and then there was the wait at the transfer station itself and, of course, the return trip. This compared to a 15-minute round trip to our local recycling depot that I visit about twice a month is not efficiency at its best.

I would urge council to rethink the move to Coquitlam and find a way to fit the area needed for the recycling depot into the existing public land that is available at the Canada Games Pool site.

Let’s use the resources of having the brightest and the best city engineers and designers to get practical and efficient use of our own public space so that residents of New Westminster will utilize the recycling program.
