Letter: Don't force condos to allow EV charging stations

Stratas should be allowed to decide for themselves, this writer says.

Condo parkades shouldn't be required to allow electric vehicle charging stations, this writer says.

Editor:

Reading the recent article in the Record regarding the gentleman who says his EV charging station caught fire in his garage should be a wakeup call for everyone who owns one of these vehicles and all strata corporation condo owners, who are now being forced by the provincial NDP government to allow EV charging stations in their parkades.

If one of these charging stations and/or electric vehicles were ever to catch fire in an enclosed parkade, the fire could spread to other vehicles with lithium batteries, creating a hell-on-earth scenario in the parkade.

It is high time the NDP reversed their totalitarian demand to force condo owners to install EV charging stations within condo parkades, unless they can guarantee that these electrical fires will never, ever happen in a parkade. This should be left up to owners to decide what to do in their own buildings, by way of a referendum requiring a 75 per cent in favour vote for the charging stations.
