A Burnaby resident says a new system for paying doctors in needed in B.C.

Editor:

How is it that teachers are paid by a salary but medical doctors are paid by “piece work”, based on 10-minute segments? And how is it that teachers are provided with their workplace, a school and support staff, but medical doctors are expected to pay for both their workplace and support staff out of the money from their “piece work”? In essence, they must become a small business on top of practice their profession!

Look at this picture: It implies that society values education above people’s health, in fact their very life! Is this truly how we value our lives?

Why can’t taxpayer money pay doctors a salary and provide their workplace the same as for teachers? It needs to happen now.
