Letter: Abortion is not the solution to the world's problems

Re: So, Sam Oosterhoff, you want to make abortion 'unthinkable'? Here's where to start, NOW Blogs, May 31

A very sad perspective indeed. Abortion is not the solution to the world's problems. There are many problems, yes. Eradicating all problems at the hopes of making abortion unthinkable is a noble thought, however it's a sad perspective, since this author obviously doesn't believe it is possible. Therefore, abortion is justifiable because the world's problems are not being solved in a certain fashion. Whoa.

So if abortion is the answer to this author's perspective, how come none of these problems have been solved yet? Abortion has been status quo in Canada for the better part of 50 years. Sex education and free condoms in schools haven't made people more responsible with their sexuality. Knowing that abortion is a societal acceptable response to unwanted pregnancies, provides society an out, a justifiable excuse to kill innocent life.

What of the thousands of young girls and women who regret their abortions and those women that have lost their own lives due to suffering mental trauma post-abortion?

As for women having died in back-alley abortions, that is a myth. Some of the best evidence that this was a myth has come not from pro-lifers, but from advocates of legal abortion.
Abortion may be currently legal, but it is anything but safe for either mother or child. Once again, it is necessary to restate that in every abortion, someone dies.
