Letter: A car-free Columbia would invigorate all of New West

Columbia Street
A food-lover's dream: Folks flocked to Columbia Street Saturday for the annual food truck festival.

Have you shopped Port Townsend or visited some Fairhaven cafes (in the U.S.)?

If yes, then you likely share my enthusiasm for a car-free Columbia Street. In the early 1990s, I relinquished Moncton, by the Petitcodiac, to live in New West, by the Fraser.

Squeezing into a Brow of the Hill apartment, it was easy to skip down 8th to my new bank job on Columbia.

At once, my explorer spirit led me through the fascinating architecture, the curious collections of retailers and restaurants along Columbia and near the Fraser shore promenade.

Yes, I do enjoy Moody Park's swimming and ball games, the nearby library and the hive of restaurants, a short walk away. But I agree that a greener, cleaner, safer, car-free Columbia neighbourhood would invigorate all of New West. And, frankly, my explorer instinct craves an access-easy, friendly, pedestrian park on Columbia.
