Dear Editor:
As a resident of the Albert Crescent area and frequent visitor to Pier Park with my wife and two grandchildren, I object to the ridiculous WOW proposal. It seems highly ironic to glorify the container, a device which is largely responsible for the massive increase in global shipping which directly affects New Westminster in the form of truck traffic with its noise and pollution, particularly on Front Street and Royal Avenue.
Furthermore, the design of this so-called art reminds me of nothing more than the effect of a good storm at sea when containers frequently fall off ships and float around waiting to sink smaller craft. I wonder what the message of this installation will be. To me it says "WOW, what an ugly eyesore on our beautiful Fraser River."
Please let's not be hoodwinked into accepting this monstrosity but instead use this considerable amount of money for something attractive and meaningful for the community.
