It's time to give the tin soldier the boot

Dear Editor:

Your front page shows a photo of the scrubbing of the "World's Largest Tin Soldier" and underneath the news that Jonathan Cote is running for the position of mayor. I wonder how unpopular I'd be if I voiced the hope that Cote would win and that his first act would be to get rid of the tin eyesore?

Now I've nothing against tin soldiers as they appear in The Nutcracker, but as a symbol of the city it makes me cringe to see it.

Is it the fact that it's "The World's Biggest" that deems it worthy? Do we really think that some city somewhere is conspiring to build bigger and luxuriate in the glory? Is this our idea of art? Just what does it celebrate ?
