Dear Editor:

Re: Bridge traffic volumes can vary, Letters to the editor, The Record, March 20.

It must be very easy for Mary Polak, the B.C. minister of transportation and infrastructure, to sit in her office and type up a letter suggesting that truck traffic through New Westminster has not increased on the Pattullo Bridge lately.

Madam Minister, instead of relying on TransLink's "spin" numbers, why not take a spin in your car through New West during the morning and afternoon rush periods? (I will not say hour, because it is much longer than that!) to see for yourself how the traffic is looking. You suggest in your letter that the new Port Mann Bridge has made a "positive difference in people's lives since it opened," but perhaps you need to talk to people living in this city to see how it has affected ours.

If you do come by for a visit, perhaps bring along a few of your staff members to take down the freeway signs promoting New West as the "alternate route" to Surrey. We really do not need big signs inviting more cars to drive through New West on the way to somewhere else!
