Dear Editor:

I am wondering whether people are aware of what is transpiring at 221 Third Ave. in New Westminster.

The beautiful 1926 heritage home that straddles two lots is being dismembered by a salvage company prior to its demolition.

How can this be allowed to happen? This is not some run-down, uncared for property. It is a heritage gem, and its demolition will be a huge loss to our city. Passersby frequently stop and admire not only the house but the pristine gardens.

I would have thought that in New Westminster, where many people work hard to preserve our heritage buildings, that this unique house would be safe and valued as a treasure.

Just last weekend, hundreds of people bought tickets to view houses, such as this one, during the annual Heritage Home Tour and Tea.

Walk by and see it soon before it disappears forever. What a sad day for our city.
