Fix traffic issues

Dear Editor:

Clouds of black smoke emitting from large trucks climbing the Royal Avenue hill from Stewardson Way towards the city hall, creating a haze of black smoke all the way up the hill truck after truck.

This exhausting of pollution and fatal respiratory effects to Royal Avenue and its surrounding residents is unacceptable.

Then comes the string of red lights, light after light, about eight lights on the short Royal stretch, with long idling waits inbetween, where the trucks have to go through all the gears.

Clouds of black smoke are pouring out of some of them with each shift.

Think about the pollution these trucks exhaust outside your door, while they waiting to cross the Pattullo Bridge during the rush hours, that last most of the day, sometimes at a standstill for long periods.

It could easily take up to 12 to 13 minutes for a truck to make the Royal Avenue stretch, polluting all the way.

Next are the trucks trying to make the lights!

Running yellows, sometimes reds, the extended corner curbs at several of the intersections are only one step away from the travelled area, a serious pedestrian accident could happen, because of the trucks not wanting to or unable to stop for yellow lights. Pedestrians beware!

This has to stop for the good of all New Westminster residents health and safety.

Fix it!
