City councillors not art experts

No offence to city council, but I always worry about politicians debating what constitutes art which is suitable for the public to see. Their primary focus is to ensure no embarrassment will reflect badly on them, which is a poor reason to give them any say.

Let's leave the appropriate decision making to those who understand art, and if it is thought-provoking and encourages public debate, so much the better. An art advisory committee has been established to oversee these pieces, let them do their work.

Dare to dream bigger, New Westminster. In European cities where art and culture are understood, the only place you will find a tall tin soldier is in a kids' park and not in a public thoroughfare.
