Choir geeks of the world, unite – and bring the kids!

I knew I loved them for a reason. Well, besides the fact that they're ridiculously talented and make gorgeous music together.

I knew I loved them for a reason.

Well, besides the fact that they're ridiculously talented and make gorgeous music together.

I speak, of course, of musica intima, the acclaimed self-directed vocal ensemble that's made a name for itself nationally and internationally for its unique approach to choral music.

Now, the wonderful Vancouver-based choir is offering up something to gladden every parent's heart: a free Family Day concert open to all ages.

The concert is set for Family Day - that's Monday, Feb. 9 if you haven't updated your 2015 calendars yet - at 4 p.m. at St. Philip's Anglican Church in Dunbar.

The hour-long concert is geared especially for families, with an early start time and a varied program that promises "touring favourites and in-house arrangements of childhood classics."

"We promise fun for Grandpa, Grandpa and our toughest audience members - those who often show up to concerts in onesies," the choir writes in a Facebook post.

What a great idea. For choir geeks who happen also to be the parents of young children (like me!), it can sometimes be hard to get to all the concerts we like to hear. So what a great way to not only enjoy music for ourselves but introduce it to the next generation while we're at it.

Entry is by donation. Check it out on Facebook - you can find the choir at  www.facebook.com/musicaintimacanada.

The church is at 3737 West 27th Ave. in Vancouver.
