This New West street will be an awful mess for the next couple of months

Downtown New West can expect major disruptions starting Aug. 13 until the end of October. Metro Vancouver is undertaking sewer upgrades at the intersection of Columbia Street and Front Street – which means road closures and diversions.

Downtown New West can expect major disruptions starting Aug. 13 until the end of October.

Metro Vancouver is undertaking sewer upgrades at the intersection of Columbia Street and Front Street – which means road closures and diversions.

According to a tweet from @MVroadwork, eastbound traffic on Columbia will be diverted to Royal Avenue.

“The WB lane will remain open and crews will open an EB lane on Columbia when possible,” said the tweet. “The completion date for the Front Street Sewer Project in @New_Westminster is extended to Dec 2018.”

“Ugh. This is going to be so disruptive in #NewWest,” tweet Coun. Patrick Johnstone, “so start planning ahead. Of course, not having operating sewer systems would be *more* disruptive, so we need to file this under unavoidable.”

The project’s work will involve the construction of three large sewer pipes and two underground chambers, said a posting on the City of New Westminster’s website.

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to pay close attention to all construction signage and to follow the direction of traffic control personnel.
