This New West pool is reopening with strict new protocols

Taking the plunge at Moody Park outdoor pool is one way locals often beat the heat in the summer.

Get your sunscreen (hopefully there’s more sun coming) and waterwings and bathing suits ready because an outdoor New Westminster pool is getting ready to reopen after being closed due to COVID-19.

The Moody Park outdoor pool will reopen on July 15, but with new protocols to follow.

“We have modified our operating and safety procedures in consultation with the Lifesaving Society of BC and Fraser Health to ensure the safety of pool visitors and staff members,” read a message from the City of New Westminster.

All swimming visits require registration. No drop-in access is allowed. Swimming lessons will not be offered this season. Bookings must be made with members of your family household.

New Westminster residents will have priority booking each week throughout the summer beginning on Tuesday, July 9. Non-resident registration opens Thursday, July 14.

“COVID-19 has totally changed how Parks and Recreation is allowed to operate,” said the city. “We appreciate your patience and attention to new procedures and guidelines in place to help keep everyone safe.”
