New Westminster heritage homes on tour

What's happening Around Town

Looky-loos will be out in full force for this weekend’s popular New Westminster Heritage Homes Tour and Tea.

The popular event gives attendees a chance to tour 11 private homes, St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Irving House and the Columbia Theatre. Whether you like Victorian, Craftsman or Edwardian homes or bungalows, you’ll find something to your liking – and get lots of home inspiration along the way.

Tickets are $40 (or $35 if you belong to the New Westminster Heritage Preservation Society) and can be purchased at Royal City Colours (700 12th St.), Champagne Taste (1101 Royal Ave.), Cadeaux Gifts and Home Embellishments (467 East Columbia St.), New Westminster Museum and Archives (Anvil Centre, 777 Columbia St.) and Gardenworks (Mandeville and Lougheed locations).

Once you’ve bought your tickets, be sure to visit www.newwestrecord.ca for an interactive map of the homes on the tour.

New West school looking to have fun

The Qayqayt Advisory Council is inviting community members to enjoy a day of fun and raise funds for the city’s newest elementary school.

The PAC is having a school community festival at Tipperary Park (next to city hall) on Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The festival will include carnival-type games, crafts, music and other entertainment and food.”

“It’s a way to get the community together and have some fun,” said Cindy Grewal Blaison, a member of the PAC.  “It should be lots of fun.”

Qayqayt’s parents have been busy since the school opened raising funds for a new playground. They hope to raise funds at the carnival to support some additional initiatives for the students.
