Calling all foodies - there is a new library book club for you.

Do you enjoy cooking and then discussing your successful, or perhaps unsuccessful, recipes? Are you interested in learning about new recipe ideas to add to your weekly meal planning, and also keen to share cooking tips and tricks with others?

The New Westminster Public Library is launching a monthly cook book club during the month of May, New West Cooks, a discussion group for community members to gather and talk about favourite cookbooks, food magazines, recipe ideas, and more.

Test one or more recipes on the monthly topic in your home kitchen, and bring your critiques, cooking techniques, and thoughts back to the library group. To participate in New West Cooks, borrow a cookbook from the library to inspire your cooking curiosities, or choose to share a recipe from your home kitchen with the group. Participants will explore our monthly theme and bring stories of recipe discoveries, experiments, and challenges to the group to share. Participants are also encouraged to take photos of their meal creations to bring and share.

The inaugural meeting of New West Cooks will focus on recipes on the theme From the Garden.  Participants are asked to trial sweet or savory recipes that include fruits and/or vegetables.  The first meeting will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at the library’s Main Branch.

Forthcoming summer sessions of New West Cooks will explore the following recipe themes:

  • June - Family Favourites
  • July – On the Grill
  • August – What’s for Lunch?

Looking for a cookbook recommendation to get you inspired for the first meeting?  Stop by NWPL for a great selection of garden-themed recipes in our collection. Happy reading, and bon appétit.
