Four students were arrested at New Westminster Secondary School Wednesday morning after an argument escalated into a physical fight, police and the school district said in a joint statement.

The New West Police Department was called to the school at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, where one student was allegedly assaulted by three other students after a previous argument escalated.

NWPD child and resource officers arrested the four students and are working with the school and district to figure out what happened.

School and district officials are also providing ongoing support to students, staff and families affected by the incident.

“This was an isolated incident between specific students and no one was seriously injured. There is no risk to any other students at the school,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott.

The school district said it does not condone fighting, bullying or harassment of others on or off school property, and it is working with police and the school to prevent future violent incidents.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
