TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Montreal conference:

The International Economic Forum of the Americas holds its Conference of Montreal starting Monday. The title of this year's four-day conference which begins Monday is Towards a Fairer and Greener Economy.

Cineplex:

Cineplex Inc. heads to court Monday over Cineworld Group PLC's decision to walk away from its deal to buy the theatre chain after the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Cineplex has called Cineworld's decision to terminate the deal "nothing more than a case of buyer’s remorse."

Inflation:

Statistics Canada will release its consumer price index for August on Wednesday. The annual pace of inflation rose to 3.7 per cent in July, marking the biggest increase since May 2011

Housing data:

The Canadian Real Estate Association will release its August home sales figures on Wednesday followed by housing starts data from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. on Thursday. Home sales have been cooling in recent months after peaking in March.

July economic data:

The economic picture for July will be filled in more this week. Statistics Canada will release its monthly survey of manufacturing on July on Tuesday and its wholesale trade figures on Thursday.
