WINNIPEG — Winnipeg police say they have arrested two people in what appears to be an unusual way of stealing vehicles — by towing them.
Investigators say they have also seized two tow trucks after a series of vehicle thefts in the Transcona area, a Winnipeg suburb east of the downtown.
They say an investigation remains ongoing and that further updates will be provided when available.
The arrests come as several people who spoke to local media say they've had pickup trucks and vans hauled away in the dead of night.
One Winnipeg couple has said they noticed their pickup truck missing, captured the theft on video surveillance footage and that a check with towing companies turned up nothing.
Anyone with information about the stolen vehicles should call police or Crime Stoppers.
