Women's soccer wins gold at games

Sinclair tied the score 1-1 with a dramatic equalizer in the 87th minute to send the championship match into overtime.

After 120 minutes of play, including the extra time, the match went to penalty kicks.

Sinclair, Canada's official flag bearer in the opening ceremonies, tallied one of the team's four goals from the penalty spot and national team goalie Karina LeBlanc made two saves to give the Maple Leaf a 4-3 advantage on penalty shots and a 2-1 win in the gold-medal final in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Canada finished the XVI Pan Am Games with a record of three wins and two draws.

The gold medal was the first-ever for the national women's soccer team at the Pan Am Games.

Canada placed fifth overall at the Games, winning a total of 119 medals, including 30 gold. The United States topped the medal standings.
