u-19s surprise at Burnaby Lake sevens

Burnaby Lake Rugby Club won the elite women's Lighthouse 7s title for a second consecutive year.

The women, including national team members Julia Sugawara and Maria Gallo, and a strong supporting cast with Laura Harmse, Kevenza Murphy, Genevieve Gratton, Devon Luca and Dep Capps defeated rival Mudhens 17-0 in the tournament final.

The win put Burnaby atop the B.C. Seven's women's standings with 22 points, four points up on Abbotsford.

In the elite men's final, Old Puget Sound finished with an unblemished record, downing Bayside 32-5 in the final for a second time on the day.

Burnaby Lake, winners in the opening Vancouver 7s, and Bayside are deadlocked in the men's standings both with 24 points.

Burnaby Lake's under-19 team was a surpise in the social division, earning a spot in the semifinals before being knocked off by clubmates Devlin Party ot 7, who were beaten 34-14 by Youngbucks in the final.

The under-14 Burnaby Lake team lost to Vancouver Island1 40-5.
