Wings Gymnastics Club flies high at meet

Burnaby-based Wings Gymnastics Club members had a very successful weekend at the Christy Fraser Invitational meet held in Langley last weekend.

Raquel Slotten won the Christy Fraser Memorial Award, which is given out to an athlete who displays a cheerful, friendly demeanour, is kind and supports fellow competitors, and perseveres, no matter the circumstance.

Slotten also did well in the Level 2 open category, finishing first in the all-around competition, first in the floor, tied for first in bars, second in the vault and tied for third in the balance beam.

Four of Slotten's teammates also fared well in the Level 2 open category.

Nikki Nummela tied for second in the all-around, tied for first in the bars, and finished first in the balance beam, second on the floor and fourth in the vault.

Emma Crooks tied for second in the all-around, tied for third in the beam, and finished first in the vault, second on the floor and third on the bars.

Raha Dang was fourth in the all-around, second on the beam, third on the vault and fourth on both the floor and bars.

Savana Fogh finished fifth in the all-around, and finished third on the floor and fifth on the vault, bars and balance beam.

In Level 1 novice, Kyara Liu finished first in the all-around and also won the bars. She placed second in the vault and on the balance beam and fourth on the floor.

In Level 2 novice, Megan Heron finished second in the all-around, second on the vault and bars, third on the floor and fourth on the balance beam.

In Level 3 novice, Alora Jones finished second in the all-around, second on the balance beam, third on the vault and floor and fifth on the bars.

In Level 3 open, Emily Lago finished second in the all-around, and second on the vault, bars, balance beam and floor.

In Level 4 open, Joanna Wong finished second in the all-around, first on the bars and balance beam and second on the vault and floor.

In Level 1 argo, Paige Wournell won the bars, and finished fourth on the vault and tenth on the balance beam.

In Level 1 tyro, Gina Rimar finished second in the all-around, first in the bars, second on the vault, third on the beam and fifth on the floor.

Rimar also had three tyro teammates with good placements.

Kelsey Longeau finished third in the all-around, first on the floor, second on the bars, fourth on the vault and sixth on the balance beam.

Claire Bezdan was seventh in the all-around, third on the balance beam, fifth on the bars and ninth on the floor.

Melissa Froese finished ninth in the all-around, fourth on the vault, seventh on the floor, ninth on the balance beam and tenth on the bars.
