The West Coast Avalanche is lacing up for breast cancer.
Justine Johnson, who started playing hockey in the Burnaby Minor Hockey Association at the age five is proud of her Avalanche teammates and their "Pink in the Rink" support of breast cancer awareness during the month of October.
The Avalanche is a new female midget AAA hockey team recently approved by B.C. Hockey for the 2013-14 season.
The AAA League has confirmed seven minor hockey associations that will host the female AAA teams for this season. These teams will compete in the midget AAA league, with the other B.C. teams, and based upon standings will compete for a provincial and national championship.
The West Coast Avalanche roster consists of 20 players from various areas, including Burnaby, New Westminster, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, North Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford. The team's home ice is at Burnaby 8Rinks and the head coach is Dom Di Rocco.
