Western Lacrosse Association commissioner Casey Cook suspended New Westminster Salmonbellies defender Matt Laustrup and goalie Matt Roik for their part in a late third-period brawl during Game 2 of the best-of-seven playoff final in Langley on Friday.

Langley was well on its way to tying the series at one game apiece, when Roik left his crease to slash Rob Van Beek, who had tallied the 10-6 goal for the Thunder at 17:17 of final period.

It took less than two minutes before things turned ugly, with Laustrap handed a two-game suspension for leaving the bench to engage Langley's Steve Hay.

Roik, who got the worst of it when he tangled with Langley rookie keeper Brodie MacDonald, was also suspended for two games following a gross misconduct penalty for careless contact with a game official.

New Westminster was also assessed a total of $500 in fines for failure to control players, including $150 for failure to control Roik for repeated attempts to physically engage opposing players in the altercation.

Langley was levied a $250 fine for its part in the brawl.

Langley won the game 12-6. The two teams play Game 5 at Queen's Park Arena Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m.
