Tracksters end season on top

Royal City Track and Field Club finished up one of its strongest track and field seasons in its history with an outstanding performance at the 2011 B.C. Track and Field Championships in Kamloops July 22 to 24.

Royal City Track and Field Club finished up one of its strongest track and field seasons in its history with an outstanding performance at the 2011 B.C. Track and Field Championships in Kamloops July 22 to 24.

Six athletes from the Royal City Track Club competed in this B.C. championship for athletes between the ages of nine and 13 with award-winning results.

Megan Lauener led the team in medals with a trio of silver medals in the 60metre hurdles, 60m dash and 100m sprint along with two bronze in the 600m and the high Jump.

Shianne Lowka won gold in high jump and a bronze in javelin.

Jenevieve Patry-Smith also had a pair of medals with silvers in both javelin and shot put.

Bronwyn Coutts picked up a bronze in the 800m racewalk. The girls' relay team of Lauener, Lowka, Patry-Smith and Coutts also won bronze in the 4x100m relay.

Ryan Jensen won gold in the 800m racewalk and bronze in the 600m along with a silver medal in the relay. Strong performances were also achieved by veteran Brianne Lowka.

In addition to these 14 medal winning performances, these six athletes also achieved an additional 19 finishes in the top 8 at these provincial championships.
