Burnaby javelin thrower Curtis Moss needs a metre and a bit more before booking his ticket to the London Olympic Games.
Moss hurled a personal-best throw of 80.43 metres to surpass the Canadian B standard and win the men's event at the Harry Jerome International Track Classic at Swangard Stadium on Sunday.
The 25-year-old Moss was coming off a previous best throw of 79.27m that earned him a secondplace medal at the Halle Werfertage throws meet in Halle, Germany last month.
At the Jerome meet, Moss had a pair of throws over 80m, topping the B standard of 79.50m on both occasions.
But last week, Moss was informed that he will need to throw the A standard distance of 82m before being named to the Canadian Olympic team.
"I think the way it's progressing, it's going to happen," said Moss on Monday. "It's just validation that what we're doing is working."
This coming weekend, the Burnaby Central grad will get that chance at the National Track League meet in Victoria.
Canada's Scott Russell, who threw 84.81m last year in Toronto, was second at the Jerome meet, more than 10m back of the winning throw by Moss.
Russell, who has also met the B standard this season, is currently first in line for a spot on the national Olympic team.
But Moss feels that all the support he has received from family, friends and supporters will help him achieve his goal.
"It's been absolutely amazing," Moss added. "I could not throw 80m without them. It's really cool.
"It makes you feel what you are doing is important, and that's what is important."
At the end of June, Moss will compete at the Canadian Olympic Trials in Calgary - the final sanctioned meet of the season in which to meet Athletics Canada standards.
