Krista Woodward of New Westminster threw the javelin nearly 59 metres in her qualifying flight at the world track and field championships in Moscow last Friday.

Woodward's throw of 58.86m placed her eighth in the opening grouping but not far enough to qualify for the 12-athlete final won by Christina Obergfoll of Germany, with a season-best toss of 69.05m.

Group B winner Kimberley Mickle of Australia took the silver medal with a personal-best throw of 66.60m. Maria Abakumova of Russia, who won Group A with a 69.09 throw, took the bronze following a 65.09m best in the final.

Woodward's best throw to date was a 60.15m toss earlier this season in Tokyo.
