Local District 4 soccer teams took a variety of paths to a Coastal Cup final.

The Burnaby Selects under-13 boys had the easiest route, earning promotion to their first A cup final by forfeit over Central City Pegasus when the Surrey side could not field an adequate roster.

"We were pretty confident going in anyway," said Burnaby coach Frank Luele.

The first-year Metro League Selects topped the u-13A division, losing just once in a 13-1-5 regular season.

Burnaby will take on Richmond United, fourthplace finisher in the u-13B division in the Coastal final at Minoru Park in Richmond on May 5 at a yet unspecified time.

The South Burnaby Metro Club Vipers will contest the u-15 boys' final in Coastal B Cup play.

Caleb Ogden tallied the game-winner from Matthew Duda just five minutes into the game as the Vipers posted a 30 win over the Prospect Lake Lakers.

Duda made it 2-0 with a goal in the 10th minute.

In the second half, Ragan Sangha headed in a cross from midfielder Pravjit Somal to close out the scoring.

Viper keeper Chris Schneller posted the shutout for Burnaby.

South Burnaby will face CCB Elite in the Coastal B Cup final on May 5.

Metro Club head coach Don Ehrenholz expects a very competitive final against the Fraser Valley champion in the B cup final.

"It will come down to one goal," said Ehrenholz. "If (the Vipers) play their best soccer, they'll have a shot at it."

The Vipers also qualified for the provincials in Aldergrove in July.

Royal City Barcelona also advanced in u-15 cup play, beating Bays United 1-0 in a girls' A semifinal.

Juliet Davies scored the game-winner on a long shot midway though the first half. Kristan Rodriques recorded the shutout for the Metro club that has eight New Westminster players on its roster.

Barca will face Coquitlam Metro-Ford Galaxy in the A Cup final on May 6.

Cliff Avenue United will contest a fourth possible final berth this weekend in Victoria against Gorge FC in a late u-18 girls' B cup semifinal.

Burnaby teams suffered a spate of 2-1 defeats in four other A cup semifinals.

Lucas Dalla-Vecchia tied the game for the Selects in a 2-1 loss to Port Moody in the u-14 boys' semifinal at Town Centre.

The u-15 Burnaby Selects lost by the same score to Central City Pegasus in A cup play.

The senior Selects also dropped a 2-1 decision to CCB Pegasus despite Sukh Raj's game-opening goal.

The u-18s are still alive in Provincial Cup play with a backdoor berth against the Island.

The last remaining Burnaby Girls' club team also lost as the Strikers were beaten 2-1 by the Richmond Red Hot Selects in an u-18 A Cup final.

Sidney Roy got Burnaby's lone tally. The Strikers have a backdoor match scheduled this Sunday in Provincial Cup play.

In Coastal B Cup girls' play, the Royal City Salsa lost 3-0 to South Delta United in a u-14 semifinal Sunday.
