Burnaby soccer teams won a pair of silver medals to go along with the Burnaby's Selects under13 boys' gold medal in Kamloops last weekend.
The u-18 Burnaby Selects and the u-15 South Burnaby Metro Club Vipers both finished runners-up in Provincial A and B Cup finals, respectively.
The senior Selects were edged 2-1 by Surrey's Central City Pegasus in the gold-medal final at MacArthur Island Park on Sunday.
The same Surrey side knocked the Selects out of the Coastal Cup semifinals back in May.
"We just can't put the ball in the net against these guys," said Selects coach John Penman.
Burnaby had its chances in the match clanging two separate shots off the crossbar and a third off the post.
The Burnaby club also dropped a 1-0 decision to the eventual championships in the tournament opener on July 5.
The Selects came back on the following day and blanked Island champion Upper Vancouver Island United 1-0.
Burnaby advanced into the final with a 5-1 victory over the host Kamloops Blaze.
"The boys played really well and won the fair play award," Penman added.
In Aldergrove, South Burnaby also struggled against its principal rival, losing 2-0 to another Central City club in the u-15 boys' B Cup final.
"The team had a good tourna-ment and we had a great season, and we got real close to going all the way," said Vipers head coach Don Ehrenholz. "(Central City Elite) is a strong team and I knew the team that scored the first goal would probably win it."
In the final, South Burnaby created some good scoring chances, but it was Surrey in the 25th minute that got the go-ahead marker.
Midway through the second half, the Elite made the score 2-0 on a well-taken free kick from 25 metres out and then held off the Vipers for the final 15 minutes.
In the tournament opener against Nelson, South Burnaby took a first-half lead on goals from Matt Duda and Caleb Ogden, but were surprised in the final 10 minutes of the match and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. The tying goal by the Nelson Selects coming in the final minute of the game.
The following day, the Vipers fell behind 1-0 to Prospect Lake following a penalty kick in the opening minute. Ogden tied the contest 10 minutes later with his first of three goals, while Burnaby goalie Chris Schneller made a couple of good saves to keep the score level.
In the second half, the Vipers went to town, outscoring the Island club 5-0. Rajan Sangha tallied a pair of markers, while Duda also tallied.
The Vipers completely dominated Williams Lake in their third match. Tyus Batiste and Sangha both counted four goals in the blowout. Duda also tallied a pair. Patrick Gregorowicz, Alex Horan, Jordan Ehrenholz, Prajit Somal, Schneller and Ogden chipped in with assists.
