Just one week after being schooled by Victoria, the New Westminster Salmonbellies played teacher/student to near-perfection against a lacklustre Coquitlam Adanacs.
New Westminster dominated their crosstown rival 14-6 at Queen's Park Arena on May 30.
The senior A Salmonbellies blanked the A's 3-0 in the opening 20 minutes, causing a weak-looking Coquitlam team all measure of problems progressing the ball out of its own end.
The second period began with a flurry of counters in the first four minutes, but New West took over scoring four unanswered markers to take a 10-3 advantage into the locker room.
"Our offence did a great job of pressuring the ball," said second star and No. 3 overall draft pick Jeff Cornwall. "When we're clicking like that, it's a lot of fun to watch."
New West built a lead of 133 before the game became a little chippy - likely owing to the 'Bellies relentless intervention in disrupting Coquitlam's rhythm.
Should New West be able to play that style at a higher tempo, it might well prove very effective against the Western Lacrosse Association's better teams.
"At this level, you seldom see (the press). But our guys - every-one is here doing it for the guy beside him. That's why we're able to do it," said Cornwall, who doubled his WLA goal production to date with a pair of tallies in last Thursday's win. "That's our strength, and we're going to get better."
Rookies Logan Schuss and Keegan Bal led the senior 'Bellies with five points apiece.
Neil Tyacke got his second win of the season, earning a third star nod with a 30-save performance.
Jordan McBride and Curtis Hodgson both scored twice in multi-point nights.
Captain Nenad Gajic tallied four points, including the eventual game-winning goal.
Dane Dobbie had a hat trick for the Adanacs.
With the win, New Westminster improved its record to 2-2, while the good news story of 2013, Maple Ridge, joined the Victoria Shamrocks atop the WLA loop with identical 4-1 records, following a 13-10 victory at home over the Vancouver Island club on Sunday.
Langley currently holds down third place with a 3-1 record.
This Thursday, the Salmonbellies test the mettle of the upstart Burrards for the first time this season at Queen's Park Arena. Game time is 7: 45 p.m.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday in Maple Ridge as part of a weekend home-and-home series.
