Stamp signs contract extension

New Westminster's Jon Cornish signed a contract extension with the CFL Calgary Stampeders on Tuesday.

The terms of the contract extension were not disclosed.

The former B.C. high school player of the year finished this season as the Stamps starting running back, finishing the year with 863 yards rushing and nine touchdown.

Cornish led the league in yards per carry, averaging 7.3 yards each time he had the ball. He also caught 26 passes for 385 yards and two TDs. His 11 total touchdowns tied him for the league lead with Montreal's Jamel Richardson.

Cornish was selected by Calgary in the second round of the 2006 CFL draft.

Prior to that, Cornish spent four seasons at the University of Kansas, where he set a single-season rushing record of 1,457 yards.
