North Burnaby Boxing Club's Akbar Qurban won the B.C. lightweight boxing title at Cascades Casino in Langley last Friday.
Qurban scored a first-round knockout with an overhand right that put Mat Andreatta of Langley on the canvas for a 10 count over in the championship bout.
FORMER WLA KEEPER GETS HIS WINGS
Former Western Lacrosse Association goalie Dallas Eliuk had his No. 35 jersey number retired by the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League on March 3.
Eliuk played 15 seasons for the Wings from 1991 to 2005, earning all-pro honours nine times. He is also the league's all-time saves leader, having won four Championship Cups and two championship MVP awards.
