Shasta tumblers win 14 medals at Canada Cup

Olivia Bortolazzo and Anita Cirillo led a strong Shasta team at the Trampoline Gymnastics Canada Cup in Langley last weekend.

Bortolazzo won the senior women's double-mini trampoline competition, while Cirillo took home a bronze medal in the senior women's trampoline at the international meet that drew competitors from across Canada, Great Britain, England, France and Japan.

Sebastien St. Germain of Montreal and Mariah Madigan of Toronto took advantage of the absence of Canada's Olympic team to win the men's and women's aggregate titles, respectively.

Poppy Quinlan and Connor Doherty of Shasta placed second and third, respectively, in the open double-mini competition.

Quinlan also placed runnerup in the open trampoline.

In all, Shasta club members won 14 of B.C.'s 28 total medals, including 11 gold, at the Canada Cup.

Liam Doherty won a pair of medals in the novice boys' 11 to 14 age group. Doherty placed first on trampoline and third on double-mini in novice competition.

Ben Blais was second in the trampoline behind his Shasta teammate. Blais also teamed with Tyler Edwards of Shasta for second place in the novice synchro trampoline.

Duncan Blais won the 11-to-14 novice double-mini and was third on trampoline.

Carolina Cirillo also took home a gold medal, winning the 15-and-over novice girls' trampoline. Matthew Bloudov of Shasta was second overall in the 15-plus novice trampoline.

Trampoline and Artistic Gymastics club novice Jared Khalifa won both novice doublemini and tumbline events.

Also winning gold for B.C. were Tiana Hesmert of Club Aviva, who won the open doublemini and youth tumbler Tamara O'Brien of TAG.

Kyle Garragher of TAG placed first in youth tumbling, second in youth double-mini and third with John Rowden on novice synchronized trampoline.

Another TAG club athlete, Erin England, won the 11-to-14 novice double-mini and was second in tumbling.
