Senior B Capitals upset leaders

After serving 24 minutes in penalties in the opening period, the New Westminster club got down to business taking advantage of two Ladner game misconduct penalties in the middle frame and outscoring the Pioneers 7-2 to take a one-goal lead into the final frame.

Nick Jones and Ryan McEwen both scored two goals in the pivotal second period, while team scoring leader Eric Tuura, Natalino D'Amato and Scott Janssen added single counters.

James Unger and Joe Taylor both inked single goals to the Cap's scoresheet to give the visitors a final 9-8 victory over the Pioneers at the Ladner Leisure Centre.

Dan Roberts helped out the Capitals' cause with four assists, while Cody Lewis was huge in goal, stopping 48 Ladner shots, including 18 in the final period.

The win kept Royal City in a fourth-place tie with Nanaimo in the senior B loop both with a 3-2 record.

The loss by Ladner was its first this season.

The Capitals will meet the unbeaten 3-0 Tri-City Bandits at home Sunday at Queen's Park Arena. Game time is 8 p.m.

The following night, Royal City is in Port Moody against the only other undefeated team.
