The Sapperton Rovers sold their stock in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League, bringing the number of teams now operating on the other side of the Port Mann bridge to four.
Former Sapperton Rovers president Bryan Wevers confirmed the controlling interest of the club and under-21 teams was handed over to the Tiger Sports Club and Vancouver United earlier this year.
The new team, which will play in the premier division of the VMSL, will be called Rovers CCBTU, the CCB referring to the Surrey association Central City Breakers, and the last two letters a reference to Tigers/United.
"We're done," said former Sapperton Rovers president Bryan Wevers, who took up a director's position on the league's executive this season.
The Sapperton Rovers were formed from a core group of players who left Club Ireland in 1993.
The club gained promotion to the premier division in 1996 and won the league title in that same season.
The highlight of the club's 18-year exis-tence was a Provincial Cup title in 2006.
The Sapperton Rovers will retain independent control of the premier masters soccer team.
Sapperton opens its masters season this weekend against West Van FC at Ambleside B park on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Rovers masters will play their home opener at Queen's Park Stadium on Friday, Sept. 14 at 8 p.m.
