Royalty on deck at Canadian fastpitch competition ini Surrey

At bat and behind the plate: Gracie Wardle of New Westminster will be on deck for the Richmond Islanders at the Canadian Open fastpitch championships in Surrey next week.

Gracie Wardle, Miss New Westminster 2012, will be competing for another crown at the Canadian Open fastpitch international championships with her team, the Richmond Islanders 95A at Softball City in Surrey next week.

Gracie plays catcher, shortstop and third base and sports a batting average of .391 and a fielding average of .931. The competition will include exciting competition against international, Canadian & local teams.

The Islanders will play an exhibition game this Friday against the Ecuador national youth team at Softball City, beginning at 8:30 p.m. The under-19 Futures tournament begins on July 2 with Islander games at 10:30 a.m. against the Las Vegas Blast at Sunnyside Park in White Rock, and 6:30 p.m. against the Brazil national youth team at Cloverdale Athletic Park.

The rest of schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, July 3 at 3:30 p.m. versus the White Rock Renegades 94; Wednesday, July 4 at 12:30 p.m. vesus the Northwest Bullets; and Thursday, July 5 at 10:30 a.m. versus Calgary Kazien. The playoffs will finish off the week July 6 to 9. All games will be played at Softball City.
