Royal City Curling Club's Sean Geall breezed into the B.C. men's curling championships.

The 2009 provincial men's champion won the A event at the Lower Mainland playdown in Chilliwack following a 6-2 victory over clubmate Jay Wakefield on Saturday.

Geall, along with third Jay Peachey, second Sebastien Robillard and lead Mark Olson, stole two in the fourth, fifth and seventh ends to advance to the final with an 8-2 win over Royal City's Ken McArdle rink.

Geall opened with a 75 win over George Hall of Vancouver. Trailing 4-0 after the second end, Geall stole two in the fourth and eighth ends to move on.

The Wakefield rink of skip Mike Johnson, third Paul Cseke and lead John Cullen, eked out a 6-5 win in 11 ends to earn a berth in the B qualifier against club-mate Andrew Bilesky.

Wakefield, who throws second rocks, had an easy B-event final, opening up with a five-rock first end to down Bilesky, a former 2001 junior provincial champion, 7-1 to claim the second provincial berth.

The Bilesky rink of third Steve Kopf, second Derek Errington and lead Aaron Watson, was unlucky in the C event as well, losing the final B.C. berth to McArdle 9-8 in 11 ends.

The McArdle rink of third Dylan Somerton, second Jared Bowles and lead Michael Horita won four straight matches in the C event to claim the third berth out of the Lower Mainland qualifer.

Despite giving up four in the third end, Bilesky kept the pressure on McArdle throughout the match, tying the score 5-5 in the sixth and 8-8 in the 10th to force a final end.

Bilesky was a bit heavy on his final rock, leaving McArdle the winning stone.

McArdle defeated Hall 7-5, John Molendyk of Marpole 8-6 and Dale

Hockley of Chilliwack 6-3 to gain the C final.

An open qualification event will be held at Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge from Jan. 4 to 6.

In Vernon, Royal City club skips Kirsten Fox and Lori Olsen also qualified in the final open women's event held in Vernon last weekend.

Fox and Olsen join clubmate Marilou Richter, who qualified last month in Vernon, at the Scotties B.C. women's championships in Cloverdale to be held Jan. 14 to 20.
