Grade 9 student Rowena Lau made it to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open Taekwondo championship in Las Vegas last month.
Lau, who trains with OMAC Master's Taekwondo on 12th Street in New Westminster, opened with a 20-3 win over a U.S. combatant in the junior A fin class and then won her second match 15-4 before narrowly losing her quarter-final bout 11-10 to a Mexican martial artist.
Grade 5 student Raymond Baptiste was eliminated in the second round, while Master Nigel was edged 6-5 by a former German national champion in the final moments of his match.
