New Westminster wrestler among 11 All-Americans honoured

DiStasio won the 170-pound division by pinfall over Kendra Lewis of Lindenwood University in the national final in Bristol, Tennessee.

The win was the first of 11 All-American honours for Clan wrestlers.

Third-seed Daphne Hodgson placed second at 101 lbs., while unseeded Tessa Ma of Burnaby finished in third place at 109 lbs.

Laura Wilson also earned a top-three finish in the 123-lb. class for SFU, as did Hillary Greening at 191 lbs. It was the fourth trip to the national championships for Greening - a former two-time champion.

Six other Clan grapplers finished in the top eight to earn All-American status.

Michiko Araki ws sixth at 101 lbs., while Chloe Ivanoff and Laura Gordon of New Westminster both placed fifth at 116 and 130 lbs, respectively.

Jenna McLatchy also turned in a fifth-place performance at 115 lbs. Bailley Halvorson and Sidney Morrison both placed seventh in their respective weight classes.

Earlier, Clete Hanson and Skylor Davis both won gold medals at the Clackamas Open men's wrestling meet in Oregon City, Oregon.

Davis, who leads the Clan team in falls this season, won all three of his matches by pinfall to capture the 125-lb. division.

Hanson defeated the top-ranked NAIA wrestler at 184 lbs., Derek Rottenburg of Southern Oregon in the final.

Alex Stemer and Gurjot Kooner both won silver medals, while Burnaby's Max Arcand took a bronze at 165 lbs.
