Mount Olive College goalie Rocky Bowman stopped a season-high 13 shots to lead the NCAA Division II men's field lacrosse team to its first Conference Carolinas victory.

The New Westminster backstopper also launched a long pass to assist on a goal by teammate Matt Shields in a recent 15-5 win over the Coker Cobras.

Bowman is currently third in the conference with 95 total saves and fourth with a 52.8 save percentage. Bowman is also fifth overall with a 9.88 goals against average.

Nine straight

Tyler Digby tallied his 16th multi-point game of his NCAA Div. I field lacrosse career following a 22-6 rout over the Wagner Seahawks in Northeast Conference play last Saturday. Digby had two goals in the win and now has garnered 15 points in his last four outings.

The victory also extended Robert Morris University's conference record to nine straight wins.

Ringette reps

New Westminster is being represeneted at the Canadian ringette championships in Fredericton, N.B. this week.

Defender Hailey Valancius will be in the lineup for the Lower Mainland under-16 team, while goalie Tara Stevens and Danielle Wall of Burnaby will dress for the u-19 B.C. team.

The B.C. Thunder is also representing the west in the National Ringette League division.

On the verge

The Surrey Eagles are just squeaking by the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in the B.C. Hockey League Coastal conference final.

The Eagles currently lead the best-of-seven series 3-0 - all of the games have been settled by a single goal and the last two in overtime.

Surrey fashioned back-to-back 3-2 wins in OT at home on March 30 and on Monday in Port Alberni.

New Westminster's Bo Pellah picked up his third assist of the playoffs in Alberni's loss in Game 2.

Surrey swept Alberni Valley in four games, taking the conference series 5-2 on Tuesday.
