After a 3-1 exhibition record, the New Westminster Hyacks fell to Earth on Friday afternoon in Surrey, losing 48-7 to the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers.

The Panthers were led by quarterback Connor McKay who threw touchdown passes to Cody Faulkner and Taylor Anderson and rushed for another.

The Panthers staked out a 27-0 lead before James Nicolas got the Hyacks' only score, a 74-yard scamper. But the Panthers then got an 81-yard kickoff return from Joe Carter to restore their lead and Tweedsmuir extended it to 41-7 at the half.

This season, the five Eastern Conference and the five Western Conference teams will each play against the four teams in their respective leagues, along with two crossover contests against the other side.

The Hyacks complete their crossover schedule this Friday night when they host Centennial at Mercer Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
