The Hyacks were back at it last Friday, this time in Washington taking on the Sequim Wolves - who've won seven of their nine past title championships.
In the Friday night game, it was Angelo Tanjuaquio and quarterback Tommy Robertson who led the way to the Hyacks' victory. Both boys scored two touchdowns, while Robertson threw another to Stewart Sommerfeld for a fifth, for a final score of 35-20.
Next up for the Hyacks are Coquitlam rivals Centennial Centaurs. The Hyacks and Centaurs will square off at 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 13 at the Hyacks' home opener at Mercer Stadium. The annual homecoming game celebrations start at 4:30 p.m. with the alumni flag football match, dinner and reception.
Juniors open with a win
The junior Hyacks kicked off the season with a 23-13 win over Surrey's Lord Tweedsmuir.
The JV team braved the stormy weather last Thursday to take on the Panthers.
With four minutes left in the first half, the Hyacks' Jordan Guzman scored a touchdown.
Following a 25-minute delay due to lightning, the Hyacks and Panthers were back on the field for the second half. New West's Brian Cagampan scored, widening the gap 16-0 for the Hyacks. In the third quarter, the Panthers managed to score a touchdown, but the Hyacks' David Penalver came back with another touchdown, making it 23-7 for the New West boys. By the end of the buzzer, Lord Tweedsmuir had scored again, but it didn't matter.
The Hyacks won 23-13 over their Surrey competitors.
