What started as an even-paced back-and-forth game Tuesday night (May 29) between the hometown Salmonbellies junior lacrosse team and the Burnaby Lakers turned into a thrashing for the visiting team. A final score of 11-3 for the ‘Bellies was the eighth win for the top-ranking team in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League.
The 'Bellies opened with two goals within the first minute of play, answered by three from Burnaby throughout the period. With just four seconds on the clock, the 'Bellies shot one past the Lakers’ goalie to end the period 3-3.
But from then on, it was a relentless march for the Salmonbellies, with the second period ending 7-3. And with four more goals by the ‘Bellies in the third period, the Lakers went home licking their chops with a 11-3 loss.
The ‘Bellies hold first place in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League with eight wins and one loss so far this season.
