The Douglas College Royals are quickly becoming the giantkillers in the PacWest.
Just one week after the men's volleyball team swept a weekend series with defending national collegiate champion Columbia Bible College, now it is the men's basketball team's turn.
Ravi Athwal led the Royals to an 84-68 upset over the No. 4-nationally ranked Vancouver Island University Mariners on Friday night.
Athwal scored 35 points, including eight-of-11 from the three-point line, while adding 11 rebounds against the defending bronze medallists from last year's nationals.
Douglas held a halftime lead of 42-30, but held its double-digit lead throughout the second half.
The win was the first in three games for the Royals.
