Cole Leal of New Westminster got himself a Coastal A Cup title but against his own district team.

Leal, who plays striker/midfield for the Richmond Metro Selects, scored in a 1-0 penalty kick shootout win over the Burnaby Selects in the championship final at the recent B.C. under-13 boys' Coastal A Cup championships.

Leal began playing soccer at the age of five with the Royal City Youth Soccer Club, before moving to Richmond this season.

In cup play, Leal garnered four assists in the run to the Coastal final, including a pair of helpers in the Selects 4-0 win over Coquitlam Metro-Ford Millennium in the semifinals.

Leal, who has many friends on the Burnaby team, scored the game-tying 2-2 goal in a regular season game between the two clubs earlier in the year.

After a scoreless regulation and overtime in the A Cup final, Leal stepped up and slotted Richmond's first of five goals in the shootout, eventually beating the Burnaby club 5-4 from the spot.

With the win, the Richmond team qualified for the provincials in Kamloops from July 5 to 8.
