The peewee C New Westminster Royals went undefeated over the weekend to win the championship title at the South Surrey White Rock tournament.
Despite injuries and missing four key players, the girls stepped up to the plate to defeat Chilliwack Elite 3-1 in a battle of the two unbeaten teams in the tournament final.
Tied 1-1 after four innings, New West scored two runs in the top of the fifth and then shutout the Elites the rest of the way for the win.
The Royals opened the tourney, defeating South Surrey Adrenaline 10-4.
The second game was a much anticipated rematch with the South Surrey Chicks With Bats. Earlier, the Royals were defeated by the Chicks in the tournament final two weeks before at Softball City. Royals won a narrow 6 -5 squeaker against the host South Surrey side in the second meeting.
The third game saw the Royals defeat the formidable Cloverdale Swat 13-7.
The Royals finished the round-robin in second place following a 12-1 win over the Burnaby Wizards.
The semi-finals pitted the Royals against the third-place Cloverdale Swat. The Royals had little difficulty earning a 12-3 victory.
